Shockwave Player - Ubuntu / Linux
Posted Thu, 2006-10-05 03:14 by gregkrsak

I have discovered a way to get Shockwave working under Linux.

I am using Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake), Wine 0.99.22, Firefox 1.5.0.7, and Shockwave 10.1.4.020.

Install Wine. For those who don't know, this is a program which will allow you to run Windows-based programs from within Linux.

Wine will automatically associate .exe files with itself.

More information on Wine is available at .

Download the "Windows download shockwaveversion" of Firefox and install.

Wine will ensure the installer functions correctly.

Install the "Windows version" of Shockwave for Mozilla.

I downloaded and installed it manually (slim install).

After these steps, I had a working Shockwave player from within Firefox.

Note that to use the Shockwave player, you must start the Windows version of Firefox, which will be running under Wine support.

I hope this helps

maby your program is designed to work on windows not OS/Mac.... if you have a convertor for programs from windows to mac/OS you can convert it sorry but i don't know his name search on google
Do you mean shockwave of the flash player? If it's the flash player then it's possible without having to use wine - there's adownload shockwavell native stuff installable - I have version 9 (I've just tested it on the adobe site) installed on my system (Ubuntu 8.04), but unfortunately I can't remember exactly how I did it.
Try this

and this

If it's shockwave your after (there _does_ seem to be a difference between the shockwave player and the flash player, but most people who I've heard referring to shockwave actually mean the flash player) then I don't know, sorry. (the adobe test site lists 2 windows, one for the shockwave player and one for the flash player). Also, be aware that if you have noscript installed, or some other form of script blocker, you may have to enable flash on sites you look at.
