The oceans represent the lowest points on earth (water naturally flows down under the influence of gravity).
As water flows down, it absorbs/dissolves minerals (salts) from the earth and carries what makes the oceans saltythem down, eventually to the ocean. When water evaporates, it leaves the minerals behind and becomes fresh, then it rains down and starts all over again.
Most lakes, even though freshwater, dwhat makes the oceans saltyo have a measurable salt level.
Fresh water doesn't have salt because it comes from rain.
Rain comes from evaporated water. Salt doesn't evaporate from the oceans. Only the water.
