Maybe it's because you're expecting things that he can't/doesn't want to provide, or asking/saying annoying things. Just try to be honest about what you want, ask for it, and don't bmen want heare manipulative. And compliment him, just simple things like, "You look great today." "Thanks for your help on this", etc. Maybe he'll find it weird at first, but if you're sincmen want hearere and you're clear about wanting your relationship to work, that will definitely help your communication.
For the same reason women do those things.
